WLC 400: WLC Major Capstone
Description
Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors.
This course was the capstone class. We were given lectures on how to complete all the requirements for the capstone project and presentation. Unfortunately, this course was taught Friday mornings from 9-12 AM however without this course nobody would graduate. We had a number of sessions about how to complete our e-portfolios, our flickr photo projects, what to expect during the capstone presentation, how to format citations, and the second half of the semester we were allowed to use the time to continue to work on our capstone projects. I was not entirely sure why the course was graded as there was not any assignments other than the capstone project.
This course could have benefited from "mandatory" due dates. I found myself falling behind with work from other classes which left me putting this corse on the back-burner until about midway through the semester. This was one of the most stressful courses I have taken at CSUMB purely because it is the course where we have to complete our capstone, e-portfolio, Japanese and English papers, as well as our prepared English and Japanese powerpoint presentations. I am not entirely sure this sort of pass/fail final project style of education suits my personal educational needs but, nevertheless, as capstone is mandatory, I had no other choice but to internalize the stress this course has caused me.
